18 July for Public Art Tours and Happy Hour

18 Jul

PACA is pleased to offer two simultaneous tours of Philadelphia’s public art followed by our second annual summer Happy Hour on 18 July 2013.

One tour will be a walking tour led by Jennifer Richards, Development and Communications Manager of the Association for Public Art (aPA). It starts at Love Park (1599 JFK Blvd.) and continues along Benjamin Franklin Parkway to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA).

The other tour will be a biking* tour led by Caitlin Martin, New Media Manager of the aPA. It starts at Lloyd Hall in Fairmount Park (1 Boathouse Row), will loop around the PMA, and will head up Kelly Drive before returning to the steps of the PMA. See below for a list of sculptures that will be covered on each tour.

Both tours will run from 6 PM to 7 PM and will conclude at the steps of the PMA so that we can regroup and head over to our Happy Hour location at The Bishop’s Collar (2349 Fairmount Ave.). Happy hour specials (two different beers offered at $3) will be available to PACA from 7 to 9 PM. In addition, PACA members will enjoy drink tickets (one per person) to kick things off.

Feel free to bring your own personal bike*, but rentals will also be available from Wheel Fun Rentals at Lloyd Hall. We plan to gather there at 5:30 for anyone who would like to rent. We may be able to secure a group discount if enough participants RSVP in advance with their intention to rent. PACA hopes to subsidize (at least partially) rental for members.

The event is FREE for all, though only PACA members will enjoy drink tickets and subsidized bike rental.

Special thanks to the Association for Public Art (aPA, formerly the Fairmount Park Art Association).  It is the nation’s first private, nonprofit organization dedicated to integrating public art and urban planning.   Founded in 1872, the Association commissions, preserves, promotes, and interprets public art in Philadelphia.
