Please join PACA and Eastern State Penitentiary (ESP) on Thursday, April 9th from 5:30 – 8:00 PM for tours of the Catholic Chaplain’s Office and Pop-Up Museum at Eastern State Penitentiary (2027 Fairmount Avenue). Due to space limitations, this event is open to PACA members only.
The event will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the Catholic Chaplain’s Office after a recent effort to conserve the office and its original murals, as well as a guided tour of ESP’s Pop-Up Museum, which features rarely seen artifacts from the historic site. Attendees will be split into two groups to enjoy guided tours of each space. The tour of the Catholic Chaplain’s Office will be led by Mary McGinn, Paintings Conservator, PAFA, and main conservator engaged in the project. A tour of the Pop-Up Museum exhibits will be led by Erica Harman, Senior Specialist, Collections and Administration at Eastern State Penitentiary. We will also take a brief tour of the historic prison and convene at Al Capone’s Cell for the event’s reception. Due to space limitations, priority for the tours will be given to the first 30 PACA members to RSVP in advance.
