Please join PACA on Tuesday, September 1st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM for a “Walk and Talk at Feats of Clay” at the Kroiz Gallery of the Architectural Archives (220 South 34th Street) at the University of Pennsylvania. The event is FREE for PACA members, $8 for non-members, and $5 for student non-members.
A guided tour and lecture on the current exhibition, Feats of Clay: Philadelphia Brick and Terra Cotta, will be provided by Frank Matero, Professor of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and curator of the exhibition, and Bill Whitaker, Collection Manager at the Kroiz Gallery and Architectural Archives. The exhibition traces the rise of the brick and terra cotta industry in Philadelphia and its far reaching influences on American architecture and building technology. The exhibit also seeks to raise the awareness and appreciation of the region’s wealth of historic brick and terra cotta architecture and long craft tradition, as well as of their relevance to contemporary sustainable design.
Immediately preceding the lecture and tour, PACA will convene for a brief meeting to vote on proposed bylaw changes (see proposed changes below), followed by a reception. Drinks, light snacks, and other refreshments will be offered to attendees. For those who cannot attend the meeting, an absentee ballot will be emailed to vote on the bylaw changes.
Please RSVP ‘Yes FEATS OF CLAY’ to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, August 31st.
The event will take place in the LOWER LEVEL of the FISHER FINE ARTS LIBRARY BUILDING with an independent entrance located just off 34th Street adjacent to a pedestrian crossing at Smith Walk (originally Locust Street). The main entrance is up a short flight of steps and is marked by a plaque that reads “Architectural Archives / Kroiz Gallery.”
Limited metered parking is available on Walnut and Chestnut Streets. The closest garage is located at 3335 Chestnut Street.
